PROJECTS OVERVIEW

Apart from winning the Queen’s Golden Jubilee award for volunteering in 2004 which included a trip to St. James Palace, a certificate signed by her majesty and an engraved crystal, Radford Care Group have written their own book that tells the story of Radford, Radford Care Group and gives an introduction to the staff and volunteers.

A section of the book was written by the members of our centre after they had two instructive workshops on how to tell their stories. A very good read especially if you’re local. Copies are available for £5.

We followed up our book with a special edition newspaper in full colour where our ‘new found’ writers told stories about their own experience throughout the two world wars whilst children of today told us how they felt about growing up in today’s world.

We did decorations for the new garden at the arboretum, designed our own coffee mugs, held healthy living days with local food and health and safety experts.

We designed and developed our own gardens, one done entirely by a team from Boots and one designed and helped by Asda, Co-op, Groundwork and B & Q.

We joined up with a local school and developed a keep fit project called Old Toes, Young Toes which led to training our two co-ordinators enabling them to safely encourage a daily exercise regime.

Our cross-cultural project, running since January, has of course built incredible partnerships with other centres and lots of joint projects have developed such as swimming, dancing, art, languages, tai chi, holistic healing. This is only our first year!!
